ANIMAL ESCAPES - Snakes
Some countries have snakes, while others don't. Here in Adagio, we don't have any snakes but it is important to know how to deal with them if you come across them in your own country. Snakes can be very dangerous and it is important to stay away from them at all times and give them their space. The best thing to do is to seek advice from your teachers and people who run parks or zoos in your city or country and ask them what to do in tricky situations, should you happen to come across a snake. It is also good to know how to treat snake bites correctly. Make sure you ask the experts in your city/country.

ADVENTURE
In Survival classes, students at the Mr Is School for Spies do activities that will help them to gain confidence outside. Some of these activities include confidence courses, rock climbing, abseiling, swimming and rope climbing. Never do any of these activities without parental supervision.

To be able to do some of these activities, you will need to ask your parents. Maybe they will take you to a rock climbing gym? Camps are also good places to do this. Maybe your school will send you on a camp with your school friends. Make sure you try all the activities that are at the camp to help you can confidence.

You might find some of these activities difficult at first, maybe even a little bit scary but just remember, having courage doesn't mean you don't have fear. It just means you do scary stuff even when you're scared. In the book, 'The Mr Is School for Spies', Jo finds many different things scary but she still does them, and sometimes, after a while, they're not as scary anymore. Take things slowly at your own pace. Don't let anyone push you into doing something when you're not ready. But be confident. Have a go. If you can't do something, that's OK. Maybe you'll be able to do it in the future. Remember to make sure you never do any of these activities without adult supervision.

If you can't go to a camp or a local gym with your parents, don't worry. There's always the local playground. The monkey bars are great for strengthening your arms and helping you gain confidence. Can you climb up the rope net?
Here are some pictures of activities spy students are doing at a local playground:

Climbing the rope net

Climbing the rock wall.
Climbing the rope ladder
Climbing the rope net, underneath.
Homework: At your local park, see how many activities you can do to help strengthen your muscles and help you gain confidence. But remember, stay safe and always have adult/professional supervision. Make sure you read all the safety notices in the playground.

SELF-DEFENCE
It is a good idea for spy-cadets to learn some form of self-defence. There might be a self-defence course at your school or in your community that you can go to to learn some basic self-defence. Always learn from a professional and under their supervision. However, self-defence should only be used as a last resort. There are many ways to keep safe that are a lot easier. Here are some tips for staying safe:
  • Don't play on the road - there are cars
  • Don't walk around the neighborhood in the dark
  • Don't walk around the neighborhood without an adult
  • Don't go down alleyways even in daylight
  • Keep a look out for anyone who looks suspicious or is doing something dangerous and if necessary, tell an adult
  • Don't get into fights. If someone says something unkind to you, don't show how strong you are by getting into a fight. Instead, show your inner strength by ignoring it, walking away and refusing to let what they said bother you. People are going to say a lot of silly things and unkind things throughout your life. Make up your mind not to believe them. Go do something else or think about something else. You are special and worthwhile :) Don't waste your time on people who are going to be unkind to you. Go be with people who treat you nicely. And most of all, be nice to yourself!
Homework: See if you can think of some other ways to stay safe.
