SURVIVAL - LEVEL ONE

Konichiwa and welcome to Survival. Make sure you have a spy school note book to take notes :) Make sure you do all the homework. Otherwise I will make you do press ups. Lots of press ups. Got it?
Level 1: Lesson One

ANIMAL ESCAPES: Crocodiles
There are many different animal escapes that spy cadets get taught at spy school. One of them is crocodile escapes. The first way to escape from a crocodile is: NEVER GO NEAR ONE! Never ever put yourself in the way of a crocodile. But if you ever find yourself out in the jungle or the outback and you come across a crocodile remember that they are very fast runners. Stay as far away from them as you can and try not to attract their attention. If, however, they catch you off guard, run in zig zags. Crocodiles run fast but turning is more difficult for them. Running in zig zags might give you half a chance to get to safety (Forrester, 1992). Or just run straight, really fast. Also, make sure you run towards land, not water. (Hunter, Retrieved Nov 14, 2013).
Homework: Get a spy cadet friend to pretend to be a crocodile and practice running away from them in zig zags or in a straight line. Then swap over and do the same for them.

Level 1: Lesson Two

SAFETY
One thing spy cadets learn is how to stay safe in different situations. Some of those situations are fires and earthquakes. You might have different types of situations depending on where you live. Some parts of New Zealand have had a lot of earthquakes recently but it pays to know how to be safe in all situations.
Homework: Go to the library at your school and find a book that talks about staying safe in different situations e.g. earthquakes, fires, tornados. Write down your findings in your notebook. Then come up with a household plan for your family. You might want to work with your parents or whoever looks after you for this one so you can all be prepared.

Level 1: Lesson Three

KEEPING FIT AND HEALTHY
A spy cadet must always keep fit and healthy. They need to look after their diet and make sure they exercise.
Here are some good ways to keep fit and healthy:
DIET
EXERCISE
A spy cadet must always keep fit and healthy. They need to look after their diet and make sure they exercise.
Here are some good ways to keep fit and healthy:
DIET
- Make sure you eat '5+' a day. This means eating five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday
- Make sure you drink plenty of water every day 6-8 cups of water a day is a good idea
- Eat less of sugary and fatty foods such as chips, candy, chocolate and biscuits and eat more fruits and vegetables
- Brush your teeth twice a day and remember to rinse out well with water
EXERCISE
- 'Push play 30 minutes' each day. This means to do some exercise every day - be it running around, walking, playing sport, or dancing. A good time to exercise is during recess or lunchtime. Just make sure you've rested your stomach for at least half an hour before you start exercising.
- Exercise with others - it's always good to exercise with someone else so you can encourage each other to keep going and keep each other safe. Also, it's more fun that way :)
- Remember to stretch your muscles before and after exercise - there are lots of books about this and your school teachers will be able to help you know how to stretch your muscles. Always get a professional to show you how to stretch first before you try it
- Doing strengthening exercises such as push ups and sit ups are a good idea too - Always get someone to show you how to do these exercises before you try them
- Play on playgrounds! They're there for you to develop your muscles and to help you gain confidence. Make sure you read all the safety notices at the playgrounds and always have a teacher or parent there with you.
