INVISIBLE WRITING: Indentations
For zis experiment you vill need:
  • a 2H pencil and
  • a 2B pencil or crayon
  • a notepad
First use the 2H pencil and write a message on the top of the notepad. You must use a 2H pencil because zee lead is very hard and vill make dents into zee paper underneath. Zen pull the first piece of paper off zee notepad and rip it up into a million pieces. Ven you have finished doing zis, zee secret message vill be on the next piece of paper in the notepad. To get zee secret message back, all you need to do is use zee 2B pencil or a crayon and rub it over the paper until zee message shows up. For added security, write zee message in code.

BIOLOGY - DNA
Every human cell carries a thing called DNA. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, so ve vill just call it DNA for short.  In Level 1 ve looked at fingerprints and how everyone's fingerprints are different yah? Vell, it is similar vith DNA.
  • Every human cell carries zis DNA and zis DNA can be used in solving mysteries. Detectives need to know about zis, as DNA testing can help identify who vas at the scene of a crime. It is useful for spies to know zis too, as you never know ven it might come in handy. Eg. ven doing research or investigating a scene veer there has been enemy spies around. DNA is just like a code that is stored in the cells in your body. The cells can use this DNA to make humans. Zis DNA is really like a chemical library of coded instructions for making humans.
  • No one in ze world has the same DNA as someone else. Except identical twins. Identical twins can have the same DNA.
  • At ze scene of a crime, scientists can take DNA samples from objects. Zat just means zey can take some DNA off an object, usually done by using special chemicals.
  • Scientists can match zee DNA samples against DNA records in zeer databases.
  • So zee important thing is never to touch anything at a crime scene. Zee police vill come and look at it and zey vill veer gloves so zey don't get zeer DNA on the evidence.
(Dorling Kindersley, 2006)
