Level 1: Lesson One

CLOTHES
The first thing to decide on when choosing a disguise is the kind of clothes ya gonna wear. Ya may need to borrow clothes from someone else but make sure ya ask first. The type of clothes ya need depends on where y'all goin'. Ya also need to blend in so no one notices ya. For example, if ya wanna go to the beach, don't wear ya business suit, instead, a pair of togs, shorts and t-shirt is a good thing to wear.
Here are some places and occasions ya might need to choose clothes for. What clothes do ya think y'all should wear on each occasion?
  • Going to the beach
  • A party
  • The shops
  • A football game
  • School
  • Ballet recital
Check the ol' answers at the bottom of this here page to see if ya had similar ideas to us :)
Homework: Look at the clothes in ya wardrobe and drawers and think about what occasions or situations they might be good for.

HAIR: ALTERING YOUR APPEARANCE
Once ya have decided on the clothes ya should wear, the next thing to work on is ya hair. There are many different ways to change ya hair so ya don't look like ya. Here are some ideas:
  • Part your hair in a different place. If your hair is usually parted down the middle, part it on the side instead, or even try a zig zag part
  • Fringe/Bangs - if you don't usually have a fringe/bangs, comb some of your hair forward to make one. Otherwise, comb your fringe back and clip it in place. You may like to comb your hair to the side to make a side fringe
  • Try tying your hair up a different way. If you usually wear a ponytail, try pig tails, or half up half down. Braiding your hair in different ways can make you look different too
  • Using hair spray or mousse can make your hair stick up if it's short. Be careful with spray and mousse, as you don't want to get it in your eyes!
  • Wear a wig - these can be very good for disguising you as they can change your hairstyle and hair color in one go! You can usually get one from your local emporium or maybe your local toy store
(Forrester, 1992)
Homework: Try doing ya hair a different way and look in the mirror. See if ya recognize yourself. Then try it out by walking past people in ya family and ya friends or ya neighbourhood and see if they recognize ya or notice ya new 'hair do'. Ha ha ha!

Level 1: Lesson Three

MAKE UP
Always ask permission to borrow ya ma's make up or better yet, use some of ya own or ya sister's. Always ask permission if it ain't yours and make sure ya don't make no mess.

Make up can have many different effects. It can make ya look older, younger, lighter, darker, sick, healthy or injured. Here are some ideas:
  • Lipstick: Try using lipstick for your lips and lip liner or just use a lip gloss to make your lips shinier. To make your lips appear fatter, just paint lipstick around your lips like clowns sometimes do. To make your lips appear thinner, just suck them in a little.
  • Blusher: Use blusher on your cheeks to give you color. You don't need much, just a little bit. Otherwise you'll end up with blusher on your clothes. To make yourself look lighter or whiter, instead of using blusher, using talcum powder. Don't get it in your eyes though
  • Eye Shadow and Eye pencil: Sometimes you can use eye shadow to make it look like you have a bruise. Just dab a little on the place you want the bruise. Eye pencil can be used to draw light scars on your arms or face
(Forrester, 1992) (Sims, (Ed) 1999)
Homework: Ask ya ma or someone else if you can experiment with their make up - they might even help ya! Remember to clean up afterwards :)
